Over the last eight months, I have been involved in a deeply meaningful and rewarding journey, engaging with the tenants of Dolphin House in Dublin 8.
Adopting a socially-engaged approach to practice, this work has focused on the ongoing regeneration project of this social housing complex and its effect on members of the community on a personal level. My research has focused on their current fight for adequate housing.
My aim is to ignite a conversation about the importance of considering the social impact of so-called 'regeneration' projects. This work also aims to inspire tenants to share their stories and experiences in order to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges this community faces and the ways in which regeneration impacts their lives.
Through my research, I have developed a deeper understanding of the issues facing marginalised communities and the importance of community engagement in decision making processes. The outcome of my conversations with tenants and local organisations, including the Rialto Youth Project is a collaborative artwork that highlights these social issues.
