Media

The Media department at NCAD embraces a range of contemporary practices working with media technologies, digital spaces and internet cultures. Our graduates have gone on to achieve successful careers in new media and moving image art and across the creative industries.

Supported by a team of specialist staff, students develop technical and critical skills across key areas of media practices: photography, artists’ moving image, physical computing and ‘new media’ of virtual reality and 3D modelling. Media teaching is underpinned with reference to the discourses and relationships between old and new media, analogue and digital and the overlap between the virtual and the physical. Media facilities include a computer lab, photography studio, darkroom, video studio with green screen, sound booth, surround sound edit suite and a ‘hack lab’ project space. The Media department ethos is to equip students to be informed producers and contributors to the live debates driving and shaping contemporary digital cultures.

Specialist media pathways are offered from the BA Fine Art programme through to the MFA Fine Art programme and PhD research.
