LamiKnit is a material exploration into the potential of jacquard knitted fabric as a formable composite fabric. The aim is to push the boundaries of traditional textile techniques through exploring the tactile possibilities of knit with three-dimensional forming.
Yarns, finishing treatments and processes are combined in unexpected ways to develop a composite fabric collection that questions the existing fields of both jacquard knit and composite fabrics.
Through a practice which is driven by a demand for a more innovative approach to sampling, while questioning our traditional perceptions of knit as a textile there was a desire to investigate methods of waterproofing and forming within the knit process.
Exploring new and intriguing surfaces for varied applications through a paradoxical tactile experience has resulted in the creation of a textile which is both hard and soft, tactile yet firm, and suitable for thermoforming into a chosen shape, form or three-dimensional surface texture.
