My work examines the relationship between grief and loss, and the role faith can play during the grieving process. Grief is a universal part of the human condition. It can be harrowing, but in the midst of chaos and sorrow, one can find hope and comfort through faith.
New compositions were produced by experimenting with organic and industrial materials that are not commonly associated with art making: soil, ash, grit, slate, plants, plywood, car parts, lead and steel. These substances were blended with imagery that depicts loss and faith.
The work attempts to engage with grief and sorrow without trying to repress and bury it, but in a way that does not destroy us.
'He that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?' – John 11:25 -26.
