Human interaction does not just allow us to survive at the most basic level but to flourish. It is impossible to achieve anything without the support and understanding of those closest to you. It is this interdependence that I want to acknowledge within my project.
I have chosen to focus on those everyday gestures with which we are all familiar. Gestures that we may take for granted but truly embody this notion of connection. I highlight the importance of these bonds by creating wearable objects that are ceremonial in nature. These are worn as an outward appreciation of those around us.
The work encompasses pieces carved by hand from aluminium and those combining 3D printing and metalwork. The labour-intensive process of the carved aluminium reflects the poignance of the work. As with ceremonial objects from the past; patience, time and care allow them to take form.
