My work consists of capturing the traces of human activity after people have moved on. The domestic setting is the backdrop from which I try to capture the stillness of inanimate objects that have borne witness to some kind of domestic activity.
In my work I paint objects representing ordinary life in terms of form and function, and try to capture the sense that within these forms something powerful is retained: continuity, memory, family. It is the mutuality between objects that are there and people who are not, that my work tries to capture.
Through the medium of acrylic paint and collage, I render these themes to create pieces of work that have often been described as evocative, cinematic and of 'pausing time in ghostly absence'. My paintings capture the continuity of life, but with different actors. Like the inanimate objects my work represents, I too retain fragmented memories of all that has passed.
