As an artist, I am drawn to the tactile and versatile nature of fabric. It is a material that can be manipulated in endless ways, from delicate draping to structured forms. It was this malleable characteristic of fabric which I found intriguing. Intriguing enough to inspire the basis of this project.
Through this project, I wanted to explore a range of other materials, including paper and plastic. The goal was to see what sort of relationship each had with fabric, and how these textures interact with each other on canvas. Playing with 2D painting and some 3D sculptural pieces, I aimed to convey the texture and movement of fabric.
Ultimately, my goal was to create a body of work that celebrates the beauty and diversity of fabric and encourages viewers to see this everyday material in a new light.
