Folklore and mythology is the core of my inspiration. Storytelling, childlike wonder, and the energy emanating from the land, is something that gives richness to the present and allows me to cherish life’s mundanities.
Inspired by my home in Co. Sligo, my practice hopes to expose the magical elements of landscapes and tell a story of higher powers, spirits, shapeshifters, and the mystical aspects within nature. Revealing the protective symbolism of materials used within the home, my practice aims to convey a domestic environment through the manipulation of textiles.
Grounded by life in each chimney, this installation conveys the chimney's scale and hopes to engage the superstitious elements depicted within it. This is presented through the eye of a jackdaw as the chimney’s gatekeeper, using rusting with iron, cyanotype printing, twigs, written charms and nails, and presented as a domestic like setting.
