How does being an immigrant affect your relationship with your friends, family, culture and with yourself? If you were a child when you first moved countries, you would be known as a TCK: a Third Culture Kid.
TCK was first coined by Ruth Useem to define the children that moved abroad from their native countries before developing their personal identity and forming significant friendships. This leads to TCKs feeling like they never belong anywhere.
For my project, I created a publication that shows the history and context of being a TCK, as well as a brand design to create community and understanding. This is accompanied by a video piece showing the real struggles of everyday life as a TCK. I want to show fellow third culture kids that the feeling of existing in between categories is normal and to create a sense of connection within a topic that usually isn’t openly discussed.
