Through intuitive making using cloth and thread, I create sculptural forms that explore the relationship between the functioning of the human body and data.
Every day we actively, or passively, participate in the gathering of data about ourselves, our activities, our fitness levels and sleep patterns. Our cars and phones record our location and map our routes via GPS. When we scroll through social media, algorithms record our interests and use that data to tailor future feeds.
When ill health strikes us and the interior operations and hidden codes of the human body go wrong, our very essence becomes a series of data points to be analysed, interpreted, quantified, and condensed into a medical language of letters, numbers and the unknown.
Using textile manipulation and embroidery processes, I make tangible a layered narrative of illness, an unravelling of certainty and of a known future.
