Surviving in this world, for someone like me, requires a continuous reconstruction of the self. Looking at work culture as a chronically ill artist, I like to break apart, reconstruct, and layer images, to create something new.
Informed by both traditional craft and the DIY punk movement, my work explores a sense of slowing as a form of resistance. I am looking to unite the spirits of both of these movements to bring an understanding of what people like me go through to my audience.
Text also plays an important part in my work, as a way of stitching together fragmented imagery. My choice to work with crochet and photographic collage stems from the same sense of slowing, and relates back to the ethos of the printmaking process: slow, conscious, layered construction that lends artistic value to the process itself.
