Unseen Sights is a body of work inspired by the old quarry landscapes of County Dublin. Modern technologies have transformed the way we experience nature. This work seeks to represent this in paint by appropriating the language of remote sensing. Using a camera drone, I capture aerial perspectives of the land from above. These reveal the human interventions that form an essential part of the environment of a city.
I approach places that have a juxtaposition between being formerly industrialised and rewilded. Collecting archival materials, physical debris such as stones and on-the-ground research, the local sites are brought into the studio space where they are reimagined as large-scale, immersive paintings.
Debris is a series of 3D printed works prompted by materials found at the quarry sites which reflects on our current geological era and how the Earth is being shaped by human activity.
