‘Terra incognita’ is Latin term meaning ‘unknown land’ or ‘unexplored territory’. These works explore the abstraction of information derived from local landscapes, transforming them into unknown futuristic environments which hold a reminiscence of the known. These works are created through an explorative and experimental process. They are intuitive and strive to capture the sheer essence of the unknown.
Terra Incognita imagines the possibilities of the future of landscapes.Visualising through the language of paint the influences digitalisation and inorganic matter may have on our landscapes physical appearance.
These paintings invite viewers to appreciate a sense of wonder and awe for our island, while also drawing attention to the ways in which their current actions have the power to determine its future.
