My work is concerned with the current environmental crisis we find ourselves in and our increasing disconnect from nature. To that end, my practice operates within the intersections of art, natural science and interspecies relations, focusing specifically on the cephalopod species.
Cephalopods have unique shape shifting capabilities and, as an artist, I feel connected to these animals. Through my research within the special collections of Dublin’s Natural History Museum, I examined the preserved specimens as a means to connect with, and bring to life, these more than human creatures. My work draws attention to the life these creatures lived, and the new “extended life” that they are living through preservation and research.
With the threat of mass species extinction, what if these specimens were our only connection?
I would like to thank Amy Geraghty, Assistant Keeper at the National Museum of Ireland for her support with this project.
