At this very moment, over 300 million people are menstruating – a biological necessity for the continuation of the human race, but one we don't seem to be able to acknowledge.
Ellie Glavin has created Technoperiod, an interactive confession box that seeks to disrupt the societal taboo surrounding menstruation. Women's personal lived experiences of menstruation are collected in the confessional, whereupon Technoperiod employs AI to rewrite them to fit within the context of the Christian scriptures.
Ellie’s project aims to challenge societies’ perception and treatment of female bodies and to highlight how women's real ‘bloody’ experiences have for so long been dismissed or silenced. Her goal as a designer is to create impact, to challenge perspectives, and to explore new ways of understanding ourselves and the world around us.
