The wider world informs my work. Media images from the war in Ukraine show widescale destruction of infrastructure and everyday life. I explore this breakdown by presenting a version of normality compared with disintegration caused by conflict. A narrative of home is photographed to evoke the everyday experience. This compares with 3D wire sculptures that represent the ideal concept for a block of flats adjacent to their collapsed structures. I draw abstracted building shapes using fluid charcoal lines aiming to capture the melancholy of absences in damaged places.
Another interest of mine is travel and stationary moments of reflection between locations. I explored this theme in the Busáras location using photography to reference a nineteenth-century travel painting with additional promarker drawings that link psychogeography with experience of place. I have addressed ecology using video to examine how industrialised colour, from car manufacture to work made by artists, is often overlooked.
