Iseult is a community pharmacist in Dublin. Pharmacy is her main source of inspiration for this project. Initially the project focused on the most obvious physical elements of a pharmacy – many shelves, hundreds of medication boxes and blister packs in the dispensary – drawing comparisons between this environment and Rachel Whiteread’s castings of library shelves, as well as Richard Nagy’s supply depo sketch.
There is nothing organic or free about the world of pharmacy and pharmaceutical science, it is of utmost importance to work with precision and care to provide the safest service for patients. This is when Iseult went back to the drawing board to re-explore what pharmacy was drawn from before: herbs, botany, animals, tinctures – things that are organic and unpredictable. The artist realised that even the cold and calculating job of pharmacy can provide meaningful inspiration for fun and spontaneous works.
