We are living in the Anthropocene, an era defined and shaped by humans. My work examines the complex and interrelated nature of the Anthropocene as we have abstracted the natural world around us to the extent that we have altered and undermined many fundamental bio-systems through agriculture and resource extractions.
Whether it is commercial forest clearance in the Amazon, to monocrop plantations of palm oil in Indonesia, or beef and dairy farming in Ireland, all these activities are interlinked through systems of trade and contributions to global warming.
Printmaking plays a key role in my practice. The manufactured and altering nature of print is part of my visual language and speaks directly to the manufactured environment we live in.
My work looks to create a tension between the figurative and the abstract, working with processed materials such as aluminium and Perspex alongside natural materials to represent the often absurd and precarious position of human activity.
