Second-Hand is a collection of found objects and texts that engages with overlooked features within architecture using subtle interventions of thread.
The mysteries that emerge in the traces left behind by others are what characterise my practice. Human interventions in caring for a building or structure – duct taped holes, temporary scaffolding, plastic wrapped fences – have captured my interest. There’s an overlap within this type of care and the care that applies to the repetitive act of stitch. While one is slap-dash and the other is precise, both emphasise a desire for preservation.
By creating minute changes to the objects I’ve assembled, I explore the tensions between leaving things as they are and engaging with them. The subtlety of the interventions are a call for attention, emphasising how the gesture of positioning your awareness can embody a form of care.
