The natural environment is something which has influenced me from a young age. It has allowed me to develop a sense of self, enabling a perception of freedom from the confines of daily life. My practice is heavily influenced by the land; it’s texture, form and shape, together indicating a sense of place. The connection between the land and human form is something which is important, allowing the viewer to feel present within the landscape.
My practice involves crafting sculptural wearable forms using the technique of hand carving, made from native Ash which is sustainably sourced from my home in Co. Sligo. The technique of wood carving is something I connect deeply with, it is fluid and unpredictable, showcasing a sense of rawness throughout each piece.
Combining the use of wood and silver in a complimentary manner, I aim to create a connection between the environment and the wearer through the use of materials, tactility, and form.
