For this exhibition, vessels and totems are created to bring the intangible into form. I have a broad approach to my practice using mixed media sculpture, print and film. These works are a tender exploration of what it means to be human from a number of perspectives. I ponder the link between holy sites and healing.
Inspired by a visit to St Brigid's Well in Co. Kildare, my research looked at St Brigid, holy wells, their position in the landscape including aquifer maps and the history of pilgrims seeking solace and healing. Devotional practices, subterranean networks of water and energy, all these things have an impact on the experience of being at sacred sites. An intuitive feel for materials such as ceramic, wood, fabric and wax were used to express this in a tactile way.
