My project is inspired by insects and the intricacies we can see in them. Many people think insects are ugly and sometimes have fears over them. The intention of this project is to show the beauty of these insects in the form of jewellery through the medium of metal so that people gain an appreciation for the insects.
The main three insects I have researched over the course of this project are the Bumblebee, Luna Moth and the Migrant Hawker Dragonfly. I have researched these at eye level and at a microscopic level to uncover their unique forms and patterns.
Some interesting processes I have worked with are 3D printing, wax modelling, casting and fine wire soldering in the creation of these jewellery pieces. The pieces are made with materials such as silver, blackened silver, fine silver wire and amber.
