Entwined in Endometriosis is a multi-media piece created to visualise the people in Ireland who are affected by this condition. There are a total of 155 knots, each representing 1,000 diagnosed individuals. The piece acts as a poignant reminder of how common endometriosis is among people in Ireland, as well as the struggles they face. This debilitating illness is severely underdiagnosed as there is a lack of support and understanding of menstrual health in Ireland.
The ceramic knots capture the intense, deep-rooted, 'knotted' pain that people with endometriosis experience daily. The illness becomes entwined in a person’s life, affecting every aspect of their being. I hope the pieces highlights that this affects many and to showcase that not enough research or support is given to those diagnosed and undiagnosed.
