In 2023 where the average user's daily screen time is six hours, our interaction with digital devices and media outlets raises urgent questions about the dissemination of information in the age of social media. Through these lenses we absorb information that has been packaged and sold to us, heavily edited to suit alternative narratives.
There is an articulated conflict of information in which audiences fall unknowingly into echo chambers. These chambers are destructive environments due to the nature of their noisy repetitive narratives, and are further insulated by the silencing of conflicting facts. Many of these digital spaces have become a toxic mimic of factual journalism, shepherding their audiences towards false narratives and alternative facts, which ultimately lead to a growth in extremism.
My work is a reflection on our relationship with modern media consumption, and explores these concepts via analogue printing processes – both intaglio and silkscreen – and by incorporating new digital media.
