I am a multimedia artist that works across drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and animation. I use a variety of traditional and non-traditional materials including ink, watercolour, etching, pencil, charcoal, wire, collage, video, photography and digital editing tools. My works are either monochromatic or vibrant in nature, aiming to explore how the interplay of tone, depth, light and shade work to capture and express things such as movement, memory, mood and atmosphere.
What unites my work is the subject matter – having completed a masters in anthropology, I am interested in people and their environments. My work explores the concepts of home, family, ritual, community, identity and what it means to be human. I am most interested in capturing the intimate moments in life that might slither by unnoticed and undocumented, such as a couple chatting in a bar, friends out for a walk, and a mother sipping tea at the kitchen table.
