Through the use of turmeric, materials from my family’s farm, and my own body, this project considers themes of tradition, family, gender and bi-racial identity. The photographic self-portrait asks questions surrounding my Irish-Indian background and also represents the journey of self-discovery that was taken in order to understand this personal identity.
Anthotype prints provide an avenue to explore my connection to my paternal grandmother, someone I never got to meet. The work is interested in how her loss effected the passing down of family traditions to mine and future generations.
